Carly Rae Jepsen has delighted fans with the exciting news that she has a new album on the way. Titled The Loveliest Time, this highly-anticipated project will hopefully bring some much-needed catchy pop to 2023’s musical landscape, which thus far has been a bit lacking in that department. Although the exact release date has yet to be unveiled, fans are eagerly anticipating its arrival in the not-too-distant future.

The buzz surrounding Jepsen’s new album began in June 2023 when she unveiled her new single, “Shy Boy.” The track is widely believed to be a promising glimpse into the overall sonic direction of The Loveliest Time, though even Jepsen hasn’t confirmed that just yet. The tune was a minor success commercially, but fans loved it, as it was in keeping with the electro-pop sound she’s created throughout her career.

This new album comes just a year after Jepsen’s previous release, The Loneliest Time. Jepsen took to Instagram to reveal the connection between her upcoming work and its predecessor, as The Loveliest Time serves as a collection of B-sides from her previous studio LP.

Jepsen has a knack for releasing albums that feature songs that didn’t make the final cut on her previous projects. This approach has resonated with her dedicated fanbase in the past, as seen with albums like Dedicated Side B and Emotion: Side B. This time around, she decided to mix things up with the name, but the idea is still the same: give fans more of what they want, especially if those songs are just laying around.

Here is Jepsen’s caption in full, which details more about the creative direction of the album and why she is putting this collection out:

“It’s been the loneliest time, it’s been the loveliest time.
After a season of hibernation comes the season of blossoming. I got to know loneliness and discover the beauty in it. The loneliest time taught me that growth comes from being planted in darkness. But now the world has opened itself back up again and in turn so have we. It’s time for celebration and for all the lessons we have learned to burst into joyful action. The Loveliest Time…

At this point you know me so well that I won’t even tease about a b sides. It’s almost disrespectful because you know that it’s coming. And in fact this is the time to announce that it’s here. It’s done and a month from now The Loveliest Time will be all yours. I can’t really call it a b sides as if these were cast off ideas – it’s the completed set to a body of work that taught me so much about love and loneliness and myself.

So let the countdown begin.”
