Cobalt’s Bare to Lure the Ladies
After a forced four-month hiatus, the lady-loving Lure party has been revived.
"Everybody's stoked, especially to bring it back to, dare I say it, the gayborhood," says Karen "Luring Leading Lady" Diehl, about the party she throws with Melissa "The Lure Of It All" May. A popular weekly staple at the RnR Bar & Lounge in Penn Quarter for nearly a year until that club was sold without notice at the end of July, Lure has now found a home at Cobalt. The newly remodeled venerable gay institution will launch Diehl and May's party starting tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 20, and the third Saturday of every month. It's been reborn as Bare.
"A woman doesn't have to be completely nude to get a woman turned on. Just bare skin will do," says Diehl, explaining the idea behind the party's new classy but sexy name. The Ladies of Lure plan to play up the name at future events, including the second party, which will take place — and go later than usual — the Saturday before Obama's Inauguration. But for tomorrow night, with DJ Rosie, Diehl says they just "encourage women to come out and show some skin," as much as they're willing — and legally able — to bare. The party starts at 10 p.m. at Cobalt, 1639 R St. NW. Cover $5 before midnight, $8 after….
