Gay His Way: Adam Lambert unnerves TV networks, parents and some gay expectations, too [video]

”We gave this some real thought. The Madonna image is very familiar and has appeared countless times including many times on morning television. The Adam Lambert image is a subject of great current controversy, has not been nearly as widely disseminated, and for all we know, may still lead to legal consequences.”

”The fact that [CBS News] blurred my kiss, I was like, ‘Well, proved my point.’ … It’s a double standard. What they’re doing is they’re reinforcing the idea that homosexuality is indecent, and that’s dangerous….There was plenty of risque choreography with female dancers as well…. I don’t have an agenda. This is me reacting to the censorship…. [Regarding the onstage roll?] Oh, I fell down. I ate it… My foot got caught under the step, and I fell forward. I thought to myself, Okay — you’ve gotta turn over and keep going…. I think the [final] look on my face was one of like, ‘Yeah, yeah that’s right!’ and also a little bit of, ‘Heeerre we go. This is gonna be intense.’ … If anything, I just felt like I was interpreting the [sexual] song…. It wasn’t my intention to piss people off, but that fact that I did, doesn’t bother me…. [During the ‘Idol’ tour,] I had women throwing underwear on stage, and ‘props.’ And that’s just kind of the head space I got into. I was like, ‘Oh, I guess this is what my fans want.”’

Adam Lambert, 27, in a pretty interesting discussion with Entertainment Weekly. One of the biggest questions of his performance last Sunday — did he intend to do a roll or did he fall down? He also says he felt compelled to denounce OUT magazine‘s accusation that he is a puppet being controlled by handlers. (EW)

”I admit, I did get carried away, but I didn’t see anything wrong with it…. No, those were not rehearsed. You know, I think ABC was taken a little bit by surprise…. I suppose I can understand why [parents] are upset, and honestly, it didn’t cross my mind — children. It was almost 11 o’clock. It’s a nighttime show…. I sometimes forget, there’s a camera on. I come from the theater…. I saw some of my favorite pop stars [in the audience], and I thought, ‘I just want to let loose.’… Just to play Devil’s advocate with you — Lady Gaga smashing whiskey bottles, Janet Jackson grabbing some guy’s crotch. Eminem talked about how Slim Shady has 17 rapes under his belt…. I’m not a babysiter, I’m a performer…. I think, if it had been a female pop performer doing the moves that were on the stage, I don’t think there’d be nearly as much of an outrage at all…. I think it’s a double-whammy. I think it’s because I’m a gay male. And I think that people haven’t seen that before….”

Former ”American Idol” finalist Adam Lambert appearing on CBS’ ”Early Show” to speak about his performance on the American Music Awards. His show-closing performance became the most controversial moment in a night of filled with pop music’s most-talked-about performers. When asked what he’d do differently if he had it to do over, he joked, “I would sing it a little bit better.” CBS News, in it’s lead up to the interview, blurred out his two most talked about moments from a recording of his live performance — when he put a man’s face in the crotch of his pants, and later when he kissed his male guitar player, who he says is a long-time friend. (CBS News)

”The network is giving a mixed message — that it doesn’t trust someone who shocked with an unpredictable show and a gay kiss, but then it is happy to go ahead with Chris Brown, who was convicted of felony assault.”

An unnamed ”ABC source” as quoted by the New York Post regarding the cancellation of Adam Lambert on ”Good Morning America” after an alleged 1,500 complaints came in after he gave a somewhat raunchy performance the night before on the ”American Music Awards.” Controversy continues for all involved as ”GMA” has opted to continue with a scheduled interview with singer Chris Brown. The R&B singer, Brown, is well-known to have beat his girlfriend, singer Rihanna, and recently, she went on ABC to discuss what happened in that situation. Some are complaining that Brown’s appearance is a misguided ratings stunt, and that Lambert’s moderately sexual performance was far less offensive than giving promotional air time to Brown.
