”Consolidated Pictures Group, the start-up that was poised to release the Sundance title, has postponed the release once again. And this time it’s indefinite.”
News from the Los Angeles Times that “I Love You, Phillip Morris” has been put off again. The film stars funny man Jim Carey and Ewan McGregor as a pair of gay con men in love. An early version of the picture was said to have included “graphic gay sex” scenes, and probably because of that, even after completion, the film had problems finding a distributor. Reviews have been mixed but mostly positive for the “dark humored” comedy. It was slated for last month, and then moved to two weeks from now, but it appears to have been shelved again. (LA Times)
”They told me August, so I will remain optimistic…. Maybe instead of ‘No Country for Old Men,’ it’s ‘No Country for Gay Men.’ I hope not.”
Steve McVicker, the author of “I Love You, Phillip Morris,” the book on which filmmakers have based a still-pending movie. Here, he is speaking about the distributor’s decision to hold off on the release again. McVicker wrote an extensive article about his experience with the movie making process in February. He said the the storyline is condensed and switched around, but he couldn’t be happier, especially since he has a cameo. The picture details the life of two criminals, Steven Russell and Phillilp Morris, who begin a relationship while in prison. (Houston Press)
