”The life he was leading in New York City was much different than the life he was leading in Waterbury as a priest. He’s certainly an example of someone who was leading a double life.”
Captain Christopher Corbett, of the Waterbury, CT police, regarding Kevin Gray, 64, a Catholic priest who has been charged with stealing $1.3 million dollars from Sacred Heart. He allegedly spent the money on lavish hotels, dining, and expensive clothing. But he also is reported to have provided three men with funds, too — one he met at a park, one he met at a male strip club, and another he met through a male escort service. Some portion of the credit card charges involved went to college tuition for the men. According to New York Daily News, Gray allegedly ”hated being a priest and got lousy assignments from the Archdiocese of Hartford.”The Hartford Courant reports that Gray said ”he is gay and has problems with the church’s stance on homosexuality.” His parish apparently has mixed feelings on the matter.
