Lady Gaga: Government’s oppression of gays is why I wore meat dress to MTV Awards [video]
”I kept thinking to myself, ‘I can’t let my fans down tonight because then I’m just another bitch in a dress at an awards show….’ I wanted to bring them with me tonight, because, if we call Harry Reid on the phone, and we tell him to schedule to vote in the Senate this month, we can get the bill to the President…. It is a devastation to me that I know my fans who are gay, who feel like bad kids who have governmental oppression — that’s actually why I wore the meat tonight…. It’s certainly no disrespect to anyone that’s vegan or vegetarian…. It has many interpretations, but for me this evening, it’s as if we don’t stand up for what we believe in, if we don’t fight for our rights, pretty soon we’re gonna have as much rights as the meat on our bones. And, I am not a piece of meat.”

The celebrated pop singer won several awards this past Sunday including Video of the Year, Best Pop Video, Best Female Video, Best Collaboration (with Beyoncé), Best Dance Music Video, Best Choreography, Best Direction and Best Editing.
