Gay man from DC attacked at NYC’s most famous gay bar, Stonewall Inn [video]

”It should be noted that the staff of the Stonewall are some bad ass, take no shit hombres. My kind of queers. I would very much like to buy them a drink…. Until now, I’ve never had the experience of being brutally attacked. I was somewhat surprised that I never felt fear, before, during, or after the experience…. Violence for its own sake is never OK. I’ve read a few of the comments posted on one of the news articles online, and I’m disappointed by both gay and straight commenters who propose violence. We must not give in to this form of irrational thinking.”

Benjamin Carver of Washington, DC, who says he was in New York City‘s famous gay bar, Stonewall Inn, when two young men asked him for money while he was in the bathroom. Carver says one of them also called him a “faggot.” After he said he was not giving them any cash, they attacked him. Carver fought them back but received a gash over his right eye which required stitches. He has posted his story online on his blog and also on his Facebook page. (Ben Carver Online)

”I’m not going to sugarcoat what happened…. It was a bar fight, but I swear on my life it’s not about Gays or race or any of that. We don’t care about any of that stuff in this family.”

Don Orlando, father of Christopher Orlando, 21, one of two young men who entered the Stonewall Inn bar and attacked Benjamin Carver. The father says what his son did was wrong, but defends his character. According to the NY Daily News, the other attacker has been identified as Matthew Francis, 17, who reportedly has a sister who is a lesbian. (NY Daily News)
