Rick Santorum’s anti-gay Presidential agenda: ‘Unusual benefits’ and government ‘privileges’ for heterosexuals only [video]

“Well, sure. There’s all sorts of contractual benefits that [gays] can — anybody can contract for. But the question is whether we should institutionalize that in public policy. My feeling is that people can live their lives however they want to live it. The question is what are you going to do to try to impact public policy to recognize particular relationships.

“My feeling is that the relationship that should be recognized in public policy that provides exceptional benefit and unusual, unique benefits to society is marriage — marriage between a man and a woman who are there, joined together for the purpose of continuing society that is having children and raising those children in a home with a mom and a dad….

“It depends on what you mean by ‘rights.’ If you’re talking benefits, as far as rights, I mean, they have the right to be able to — employment. I mean, I don’t know. I don’t know what you mean by rights.

“What I’m talking about are privileges here, privileges of marriage. Privileges of government benefits is a different thing than basic rights to be able to live their lives, as they well should and can, as free Americans.”

Rick Santorum , a former Republican Senator from Pennsylvania , talking with Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday. Wallace indicated that Santorum is likely going to run to be the GOP’s Presidential candidate in 2012, and Santorum acknowledged that he is opposed to gay marriage, civil unions and that he wants to reinstate the US military’s ban on gay servicemembers. Santorum also delved into 1980s-style conservatism railing about morals, character, values, and virtues and a need for a society to live by a “moral concensus” during another Fox interview. In 2006, Santorum’s controversial bid to be re-elected resulted in him losing “in a landslide.” Santorum also claimed to be answering “God’s call.”
