Cheerleading in L.A. — Bring It On: The Musical
Is it chilly in here? Are there Toros in the atmosphere? Well, in Los Angeles at least the stage is heating up with a new musical based on the gay-popular 2000 teen cheerleading comedy Bring It On. In what might seem like a bad sign, producers are foregoing a Broadway run (at least for now) and are instead going straight to a national tour. Sadly, the closest stops to D.C. will be in North Carolina in April of next year, and the longest run is the first stop in Hollywood. It’s not clear yet that Bring It On: The Musical is worth the trek, but look at the impressive pedigree: Lin-Manuel Miranda (In The Heights) wrote the music with Tom Kitt (Next to Normal) and lyrics with Amanda Green (High Fidelity); Jeff Whitty (Avenue Q) penned the book; and Andy Blankenbuehler (In The Heights) serves as director/choreographer.
