Palm Springs: Lights, camera, action!
Long known as Hollywood’s playground, Palm Springs has announced that it will once again host several premier film festivals in 2012. Featured film festivals include the star-studded Palm Springs International Film Festival, Festival of Native Film & Culture, Arthur Lyons Film Noir Festival, Palm Springs International ShortFest and Cinema Diverse.
Palm Springs will roll out the red carpet for Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Glenn Close, Michelle Williams and other Hollywood movers and shakers for the 23rd Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival scheduled for Jan. 5 to 16, 2012. The world-renowned film festival will include over 200 films from more than 60 countries, special events and a black-tie awards gala scheduled for Jan. 7 at the Palm Springs Convention Center. The Agua Caliente Cultural Museum will present its 11th annual Festival of Native Film & Culture, Feb. 29 to March 4, 2012, at the Camelot Theatres. Known as one of the nation’s most highly regarded festivals of its kind, the event will feature the best in films by, about and starring Native Americans. The guest programmer will be Elizabeth Weatherford, the founding director of the Film and Video Center at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian. The 12th annual Arthur Lyons Film Noir Festival, May 10 to 12, 2012, will feature an eclectic mixture of films from the classic Film Noir era. In addition to the twelve film screenings at Camelot Theatres, the festival will include special appearances by some of Hollywood’s greatest Film Noir stars and special receptions. Recognized as one of the world’s premier short film festivals, the Palm Springs International ShortFest will return to the Camelot Theatres June 19 to 25, 2012. Scheduled for Sept. 2012, Cinema Diverse, a gay and lesbian film festival, will showcase the best in LGBT filmmaking including features, documentaries and shorts.
