Philadelphia’s Blue Ball ends, Sapphire Ball begins

For the weekend of Jan. 27 to 29, Philadelphia’s Sapphire Fund will present Sapphire Weekend, a series of events to raise money for LGBT charitable organizations.

Sapphire Weekend will feature three signature events, beginning with the Winter Wonderland Ball taking place on Friday, Jan. 27, at Voyeur Nightclub. The night promises a red carpet, live entertainment and DJs, and is a semi-formal event. Tickets for the Winter Wonderland Ball are $15 in advance or $20 at the door.

On Sat., Jan. 28, the Sapphire Ball Live will be held at the Franklin Institute. It will run from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. and will feature a ten-piece band in one of the most spectacular venues in Philadelphia. A reception will precede the event from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets for Sapphire Ball Live are priced at $60 with a cash bar. VIP tickets are priced at $150 and include admission to the ball and the reception as well as an open bar.

The weekend will conclude with the Sapphire Weekend’s Sunday Brunch, taking place at the Pyramid Club on the 52nd floor of Penn Center with stunning panoramic views of the city. Tickets for Sunday’s brunch are $65 each.

Sapphire Weekend replaces Blue Ball Weekend, Sapphire Fund’s signature event for the past twenty years.

“Blue Ball Weekend was the fundraising cornerstone of Sapphire Fund for 20 years, with last year being its final year” says board President Domenic Gallelli. “We felt that this was the perfect time to launch something fresh and innovative, something that would be appealing to a broader subset of the LGBT community. As our stakeholders have grown and evolved, we as a responsible organization are compelled to oblige.”

The beneficiaries of the 2012 Sapphire Fund Weekend will be the The National Adoption Center, which assist LGBT individuals and couples with adoption services, and Child Advocates, which provides social and legal services to abused and neglected children in the Philadelphia region and is launching a LGBT-specific initiative.
