Tonight’s Madonna half-time show at the Superbowl got a significant amount of attention from her dedicated gay fans, but it was CNN commentator Roland Martin‘s tweets about H&M’s new David Beckham underwear that started a secondary firestorm on Twitter. He tweeted:
He then followed up, tweeting:
He later attempted to explain his tweets, writing:
Although he responded to several other tweets, Martin did not respond to a question from Metro Weekly about why, if the tweet was about soccer and not based in anti-gay sentiment, he only referenced his concern about “a dude … hyped” about the very sexual ad.
UPDATE @ 10:45P: GLAAD is calling on CNN to fire Martin, about whom they state: “Martin’s tweets today advocating violence against gay people weren’t an accident. They are a part of a larger pattern for Martin.”
