The DC Comics character who is going to be revealed as gay in an upcoming issue is the original Green Lantern, Alan Scott, according to the Bleeding Cool‘s Rich Johnston. He says that a source at Phoenix Comic Con confirmed the news to him.
DC Comics announced — as Bleeding Cool reported — on May 20 that it would be reintroducing a character in the “rebooted” DC Comics universe as gay in an upcoming issue.
As Johnston wrote on May 24, when speculating that he believed it made sense that it would be Scott, “Created by Martin Nodell, and first written with Bill Finger in 1940, Green Lantern was originally a mysticaly-based superhero, whose powers were derived from the flame of a magic lamp and he became an original member of the Justice Society Of America.”
Geekscape, which picked up the Bleeding Cool report, notes, “After the reboot of the DC universe Alan Scott was first reintroduced in Earth-Two #1.”
The news comes as Marvel Comics character, Northstar, will be wedding his boyfriend in a new issue of Astonishing X-Men.
