Amazon announces press conference, adds fuel to Fire rumors, regrets pun-inducing name

Amazon has announced a press conference, taking place September 6 in an airport hangar in Santa Monica, Ca. Offering no other information, the announcement is almost certain to involve the online shopping giant’s Kindle products, with most speculation pointing towards the Fire tablet.

As we previously noted, rumors of a 10-inch Fire to sit alongside an updated 7-inch model continue to burn (okay, no more puns), with the refresh expected to bring higher-resolution screens and quad-core processors — to help rival the Google Nexus 7 that usurped Amazon’s 7-inch budget crown.

The rumor-mill is also churning out hints of a $199 price tag for the 7-inch Fire, matching the current model and the Nexus 7, but the 10-inch version has so far eluded any pricing estimates. Nothing more is known about the devices, but we’ll have the full lowdown for you September 6.
