While those neighborhoods have helped make the Washington metropolitan area one of the nation’s top homes to gays and lesbians, there are many other neighborhoods out there that may not have reputations as gay centrals, yet are home to bustling gay communities. And, contrary to urban stereotypes, not every gay and lesbian homesteader is looking for a unique, fixer-upper to become a harbinger of gentrification.
