Honored with Pride
Metro Weekly honored for coverage
D.C. Pride and Heritage, a celebration of the local Asian/Pacific Islander GLBT community, honored Metro Weekly May 10 for empowering the local A/PI GLBT community with media coverage.

”Because our goal at Metro Weekly is to highlight and cover all parts of our diverse GLBT community, it’s an honor as well as professionally rewarding to be recognized by Pride and Heritage for raising awareness of the A/PI community,” says Sean Bugg, co-publisher of the magazine. ”Pride and Heritage really reflects the growth of the GLBT A/PI community and I’m pleased we’ve been able to bring attention to that from the GLBT community at large. I think that as GLBT people we have a lot to learn from the diversity in our community, and that’s what I hope we encourage with all our coverage at Metro Weekly.”
Pride and Heritage is a collaboration of a the Asian/Pacific Islander Queer Sisters (APIQS), Asian/Pacific Islander Queers United for Action (AQUA), KhushDC and the D.C. Chapter of the National Asian Pacific American Women’s
Forum (NAPAWF-DC).
Other honorees at the Saturday event at Apex were Trang Duong, Joseph Truong, and South Asian Americans Leading Together (SAALT), a national non-profit organization based in Takoma Park. Pride and Heritage also recognized ”emerging leaders,” Ninad Jog of KhushDC, Linh Hoang of AQUA and Hyacinth Alvaran of APIQS.
May has been federally recognized as Asian Pacific American Heritage Month since 2000.
