Black Pride President Steps Down
With the end of August also came the end of Courtney Snowden’s year as president of D.C. Black Pride. Although her term was to run for a second year, Snowden says that following a successful yet demanding 2008 D.C. Black Pride Memorial Day Weekend, she needs to refocus greater effort on her professional life.
”I do this with the heaviest of hearts,” says Snowden, who works as a director with The Raben Group, a D.C. public relations/lobbying/consulting firm founded by Robert Raben, a gay, Clinton-era assistant attorney general.
”It’s hard because 2008 [D.C. Black Pride] was such a monumental success,” says Snowden, emphasizing that the organization should not be hindered in any way by her departure.
”No one person makes it happen. It’s a coalition of groups and individuals. I know it will go on as strong and successful as it has. And I remain committed to the organization. I will continue to help out.”
Snowden says the board of D.C. Black Pride should elect a new president in the near future. In the meantime, the organization’s vice president, Ray Daniels, will be step in as acting president.
