A Dec. 4 altercation — including homophobic epithets — that left one man hospitalized with knife wounds, may have been a hate crime, according to the Washington Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).
MPD reports that the victim said he was confronted by two men at the Hong Kong Carry-Out, at 3123 Martin Luther King Ave. SE, around 10:30 p.m., Thursday night. According to the report, slurs escalated to violence when one of the two suspects allegedly stabbed the victim in his lower back and right shoulder. The suspects then fled the scene.
The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition and treated for his injuries. A second victim, a friend of the first, suffered a ”minor laceration to the lip and was treated at the scene.” None of the injuries were life-threatening, according to the MPD.
Police announced Dec. 5 that they are looking for two suspects, and that the attack is a ”potential hate/bias crime.”
One is described as a black male in his early 20s, 5 feet and 8 inches tall and weighing 160 pounds, with a medium complexion and wearing a black, North Face jacket, and blue jeans.
The other suspect is described as a black male in his early 20s, 5 feet and 3 inches tall, weighing 180 pounds, with a dark complexion. He was reported to be wearing a black ”hoodie” and blue jeans at the time.
Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call MPD at 202-727-9099.
