Reba sounds off in favor of marriage equality
Singer shares thoughts on LGBT rights in interview with gay publication
“To each his own, and everybody is different. God did not make us all the same. So, I just pray for an open mind and a loving heart, and I think that’s all I can do.”
— Country singer Reba McEntire, in an interview published in PrideSource, an online publication from the publishers of the Michigan-area Between the Lines, explaining why she supports marriage equality. A longtime ally of the LGBT community, McEntire recounts attending her first gay wedding a few months ago, for two friends of hers that have been together for 20 years. “I thought that is was not fair,” she says in the interview, “and I didn’t understand why they couldn’t get married.”
In the interview, McEntire also said that she would be fine with having a gay grandchild, defending comments by her daughter-in-law, Kelly Clarkson, on being the parent of a gay child, and shared her thoughts about a slew of country music performers who have come out of the closet in recent years.
