Probable Cause Found in Stanton Road Stabbing
Man accused of stabbing transgender woman up to 40 times charged with additional count, held without bond
The Southeast Washington man accused of stabbing a transgender woman anywhere from 35 to 40 times in the 3000 block of Stanton Road SE was charged Thursday with an additional count of assault with significant bodily injury, in addition to the charge of robbery he already faced.
D.C. Superior Court Judge Rainey Brandt, on behalf of Judge Stuart Nash, found probable cause that 23-year-old Michael McBride had committed the attack against the transgender woman, who was hospitalized at Prince George’s Medical Center in Cheverly, Md., for her injuries, which included a punctured lung. She was released six days later.
According to a friend of the victim, McBride had known the victim before the attack, and only began stabbing her after a passerby asked him what he was doing with a ”faggy.”
Brandt’s finding of probable cause means the case will go before a grand jury, who will decide if there is enough evidence to move forward with a trial. Brandt also ordered McBride be held without bond until his scheduled felony status hearing, Sept. 3, in D.C. Superior Court. No bias-related enhancements have been filed against McBride.
